Illinois Fishing Lodges and Fish Camps

Hidden Lake Bed and Breakfast
Hidden Lake Bed and Breakfast is situated on twelve acres of woods, gardens and water in the midst of the Shawnee National Forest, along the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail and just moments away from Alto Vineyards, Blue Sky Vineyards, and Russell Hill Winery to name just a few as well as Giant City State Park, the Cache River Wetlands, Little Grand Canyon, Bald Knob Mountain and the Southern Illinois Wine Trail.

Unseen from the house or the road is a two-acre lake (hence the name “Hidden Lake”) complete with a pier for wetting your feet in the warmer months and a paddleboat for lazily making your way around. The lake is stocked for fishing but please practice CPR—catch, photograph, and release—so the fish are there for your next visit! Feel free to enjoy a lakeside campfire on a cool evening—John has a pile of wood always at the ready - and our new hilltop gazebo is a terrific place to enjoy an evening glass of wine or an early morning cup of coffee. Be sure to walk the grounds, checking out our woodland walkway as well as fruit trees and our herb and flower gardens. Help yourself to whatever is in season—it's all organic!

Jeff Yergler's Lick Creek Game Preserve's
Lick Creek Game Preserve is positioned on 991 acres of beautiful terrain located in central Illinois. There are all kinds of terrain for all types of hunters from timber pastures to crop areas and there is a small camping area and a 55-acre lake that provides excellent fishing to our members.

We have done quite a lot of work on this lake since my arrival in 1989. We netted approximately 15000 pounds of carp out of the lake. This project took place about 10 years ago and the lake has really responded. After the carp trapping was completed, we caught about 400, 2-2.5 pound bass from our other farm ponds and transferred them to the lake. At that point we started to raise catfish in netted pens that we then released into our lake. We added 15000 catfish at that time. We raised them until they were about 10-11 inches long before the release. They have done extremely well since then. With the increase in the Bass and Catfish we added to the lake we started to see a marked improvement in our Crappie and Blue Gill as well. They have gotten much bigger in size and the population has remained very steady.
